PNoy accepts Juico resignation as PCSO chief
MANILA - President Benigno Aquino III has accepted the resignation of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chair Margarita Juico.
In a statement, Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said, "President Aquino thanks PCSO Chairperson Margarita Juico for her dedicated service to the government and the Filipino people. As an esteemed family friend, President Aquino wishes her well on her decision to end her stint in public service."
Coloma said Juico's resignation will take effect ''upon formal written acceptance by the President in accordance with established procedures."
On late Thursday night, ABS-CBN News sources said Juico met with Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa , who gave Juico until the end of the month "to wind up" at the agency.
No reason was given for the resignation, but sources told ABS-CBN News that President Aquino is not happy with the way things are at the PCSO.
Juico is a family friend of the Aquinos. She was appointed PCSO chief in 2010 by Aquino.
Juico was the appointments secretary of President Benigno Aquino's mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, and is known to be very close to Noynoy's sisters.
Her husband, Philip, was agrarian reform secretary during Cory's time.
Juico's likely replacement is former Cavite governor Ayong Maliksi, who lost his gubernatorial bid in the 2013 elections.
Maliksi, however, would have to be appointed after May 13 because of the one-year appointment ban on losing candidates.
