JBC sets public interview for applicants to SC

MANILA, Philippines - The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has scheduled a public interview of the applicants and nominees for the posts to be vacated by Supreme Court Associate Justices Antonio Eduardo Nachura and Conchita Carpio Morales who are set to retire on June 13 and June 19, respectively.
The public interview of the candidates for the post is mandated under Section 1, Rule 7 of the Rules of the JBC. The JBC, which is chaired by the Chief Justice, includes the chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Justice, a retired member of the SC and of the Court of Appeals and one representative each from the Integrated Bar and the academe, as members.
Scheduled for interview on May 18 are Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justices Ramon M. Bato, Jr., Estela P. Bernabe, Apolinario D. Bruselas Jr., Rosmari Carandang and  Stephen C. Cruz; law practitioner Tomas O. Cabili; and Court of Tax Appeals (CTA ) Associate Justice Juanito C. Castañeda Jr.
On May 19, those who will be interviewed by the eight-man JBC panel are CA Associate Justices Magdangal M. de Leon, Isaias P. Dicdican, Bienvenido L. Reyes;  Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Alex Quiroz, lawyers Sabino Padilla IV, and Eduardo P. Liazares and law books author Francis H. Jardeleza,.
The last public interview is set on May 20 with CA Associate Justices Jose C. Reyes Jr., Noel G. Tijam, Deputy Court Administrator  Vilches Nimfa,  human-rights advocate Pablito Sanidad,  businessman-lawyer Rodolfo D. Robles and Judge Marino Rubia Marino of the Regional Trial Court in Biñan, Laguna.
On the other hand, the JBC will no longer interview 13  other aspirants as they were already subjected to such in July last year for the lone vacancy created by the retirement of former Chief Justice Reynato Puno.
