Palace wishes Merci well
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang is wishing Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez well as she leaves her office today.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda thanked Gutierrez for “sparing the country from a protracted impeachment trial.”
“We wish the Ombudsman good fortune in her private life. We thank her from sparing the country from a national ordeal of a protracted impeachment case, and we wish her well," he said.
Lacierda said none of the said factions in the Palace will matter as the President makes his choice for the next Ombudsman. “I can guarantee that the President will appoint a person of integrity, of competence and of probity to the Office of the Ombudsman and none of the factions would try to insist on a particular appointee.”
He said the next Ombudsman would “certainly one that will see the case as it should be, that would see the case based on the evidences presented and will not patronize any particular person.”
Lacierda said reports of Supreme Court Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales being named the next Ombudsman are “speculations.” Lacierda said he has seen a letter of Ed Panlilio recommending lawyer Ernesto Francisco for the post.
