State workers to get salary increase June 1

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has issued an executive order allowing for the early adjustment in the salaries of state workers.

Executive Order 40 allows for the implementation of the third tranche of the adjustment assessed under the Salary Standardization Law.

The pay increase will take effect on June 1, covering national government agencies, government-owned and -controlled organizations, government financial institutions, judiciary as well as military and uniformed personnel.

Aquino announced the news on Sunday during Labor Day.

He said the Department of Budget and Management found a way to be able to move the salary adjustment a month earlier especially since “the opening of classes is nearing.”

The executive order also covers local government units. The salary schedule for the LGU personnel shall be determined by the sanggunian concerned based on its income class and financial capability.

“For this purpose, the DBM shall issue the Third Tranche Monthly Salary Schedule for Local Government Personnel for each LGU income class to take effect not earlier than 1 January 2012,” EO 40 read.
