MANILA, Philippines – Militant party-list group Bayan Muna announced on Saturday that it is endorsing former Senator Ramon ‘Jun’ Magsaysay Jr. in the upcoming May 13 elections.
In a statement, Bayan Muna president Satur Ocampo said Magsaysay “showed a high degree of integrity, diligence and competence in serving the public interest” in his previous term as senator.
Magsaysay served as senator from 1995 to 2001 and 2001 to 2007.
"Particularly commendable was his firm determination to uncover, document, and recommend the prosecution of accountable public officials in the nefarious P750 million fertilizer fund scam under the Arroyo government,” Ocampo added.
Ocampo also lauded the former senator’s support for legislated substantial salary increases and increased support for Filipino farmers.
"He deserves to be returned to the Senate," Ocampo said.
In the latest Pulse Asia survey, Magsaysay tied with fellow Team PNoy candidate Risa Hontiveros in 12th to 17th places.
