MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang is hoping that Chief Justice Renato Corona will testify and personally answer the charges against him as the defense presents their evidence when his impeachment trial resumes next week.

"There have been promises made in the past that they will answer the charges, that he will shed light on his dollar deposits. That is still up in the air. Perhaps when [the trial] resumes, we will see more of that," Deputy Presidential Spokeswoman Abigail Valte said.

"He was very adamant at the times when he made those promises then we will wait for the resumption," she added.

Corona is accused of betraying public trust for allegedly failing to disclose his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs).

House prosecutors have accused Corona of failing to declare real estate properties and multimillion-peso accounts in his SALNs. Recently, the Office of the Ombudsman said it is investigating reports that Corona is keeping $10 million in bank accounts.
Corona has denied the accusation, saying that it is black propaganda to influence senators at the resumption of his trial. He earlier said he will explain everything about his dollar deposits in due time.
