MANILA -- Urban poor protesters from the city of Manila trooped to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday morning to denounce any move to grant immunity to alleged pork barrel scam architect Janet Lim Napoles.

Bearing tarpaulins and streamers that read "Napoles, panagutin," "State prison, hindi state witness," and "Perang ninakaw nyo, ilaan sa serbisyo," the group of around 50 protesters, as estimated by the Manila Police District (MPD), called on Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to thumb down Napoles' plea to turn state witness in the plunder and graft charges filed in connection with the scam before the Office of the Ombudsman.

The group said Napoles should be held accountable for being the scam's operator, and should serve jail time.

Napoles, Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Bong Revilla, and Jinggoy Estrada, and several others were charged for the siphoning of the lawmakers' Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) into bogus non-government organizations' (NGOs) and alleged "ghost" projects.

A manifesto was also submitted to De Lima by the protesters, to stress their opposition to any deal between government and Napoles.

The group voluntarily dispersed after staging an orderly protest.
