VP Binay denies Nancy doesn't grant interviews
MANILA - Vice-President Jejomar Binay denies that his daughter, United Nationalist Alliance senatorial candidate Nancy Binay, does not want to grant interviews.
Speaking to reporters, Binay apologized that his daughter has turned down an invitation to join a media forum next Wednesday.
"Pasensya ka na. Ang daming appointment nun. Nanggaling kaming Zamboanga, et cetera, et cetera," he said in an interview after welcoming 30 overseas Filipinos arriving from Kuwait.
He added: "Basta hindi totoo na ayaw niyang magpa-interview. Pero there are commitments na kailangang sundin."
Nancy Binay has repeatedly turned down requests to join debates against fellow senatorial candidates, saying she is too busy with the campaign.
A satirical blog post earlier joked that her lawyer even filed for a temporary protection order that will shield her from joining debates.
The vice-president said he is unfazed by the negative sentiments against his daughter, saying that it is part of any campaign.
He denied that his daughter has many detractors, noting that Nancy is now tied at 3rd-4th places with Cynthia Villar in the last Social Weather Stations survey.
Binay also rejected a reporter's question that Nancy is spending a lot in the campaign. "Ay susmaryosep. Sa'yo lang nanggaling yun! Sa’yo ko lang narinig yun! Walang nagsasabi ng ganun! Ang sinasabi, (dahil) anak ko raw yun," he said.
He added that UNA is no longer paying for surveys after SWS upped the fee for subscribers.
