MANILA – Tension between Hong Kong and the Philippines finally ended Wednesday, through the help of former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
In behalf of the Philippine government, Estrada flew to Hong Kong last Tuesday to offer sympathy and regret to the families of Hong Kong tourists killed in the 2010 hostage taking at the Quirino Grandstand.
On Thursday, TV Patrol asked on Facebook and Twitter: "Ano ang masasabi niyo sa mga ginawa ng administrasyon at ni Mayor Joseph Estrada para matapos ang krisis?"
Some netizens commended the effort of Estrada and praising him for helping to finally settle the issue.
"Salamat ng marami Mayor Joseph Estrada! Tensyon kaya yan sa [aming] mga OFW na nandito sa Hong Kong!" said one Facebook user.
"Salamat po kay Mayor Joseph Estrada. Good job," added another. "Good. Dapat lang na magpatawad ang bawat isa; tao lng tayo, we need peace in every nation para maiwasan ang war. Continue your good work Mayor Estrada and the [administration]."
But other social media users doubted Estrada's Hong Kong mission.
Some pointed at the 2016 presidential elections and his possible interest.
