Sandiganbayan denies Arroyo's bail petition
MANILA - The Sandiganbayan has denied former president and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's appeal for bail made through a supplemental motion for reconsideration.
The decision, promulgated on Monday (April 21) and penned by Associate Justice Rafael Lagos, said the anti-graft court is not accepting the former president's argument that she is not a flight risk and that she is ill.
Arroyo is currently on hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) for a plunder case involving P366 million in Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) confidential and intelligence funds.
The anti-graft court said, according to Dr. Martha Nucum, Arroyo's physician at the VMMC, the present state of health of the former president is only "guarded,'' which means she is "not well nor very sick."
The supplemental motion for reconsideration was earlier filed by Arroyo's camp after the Sandiganbayan affirmed its decision last February to deny her bail in connection with the plunder case.
