MANILA, Philippines – Ang Galing Pinoy party-list Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo refused to enter a plea in the tax evasion case filed against him by the Department of Justice.

Instead, the Court of Tax First Division entered the not guilty plea for Arroyo during his arraignment Wednesday.

Arroyo’s lawyer, Ruy Rondain, said his client did not enter any plea since he does not recognize the tax evasion case against him.

The court has scheduled the preliminary conference and pre-trial on May 16.

Mikey was charged with three counts of tax evasion for allegedly failing to file income tax returns from 2007 to 2009. His wife, Angela, faces seven counts for allegedly failing to file ITRs from 2003 to 2009.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue earlier placed the couple's total tax liability at P73.85 million.
