MANILA - Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal on Monday afternoon submitted the draft of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) to the Office of the Executive Secretary in Malacanang through Undersecretary Frederick Musngi, a Palace official said.

Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said the draft was submitted to the Palace at around 5pm.

Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said both panels in the peace negotiations know that the draft law will be subjected to scrutiny.

This is why they made sure they had legal guidance so that the draft law will withstand scrutiny, she said.

The submission of the draft law is the next step after the historic signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) between the government and the MILF last March.

The President's legal team will then approve the proposal and submit it to Congress in time for the reopening of sessions on the first week of May.

The law will pave the way for the Bangsamoro political entity, which will replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). -- Reports from Jenny Reyes, ABS-CBN News
