Australia's Governor-General to have 2-day state visit in PH
MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III is expected to welcome on Thursday Quentin Bryce, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, who will have a 2-day state visit in the Philippines.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said Bryce, who will be in the country from April 12 to 13, will be given a 21-gun salute at the grounds of Malacañang upon her arrival on Thursday morning. A state dinner will be held in her honor later in the evening.
The DFA said among Bryce’s agenda in her visit is to be briefed on the government’s various social welfare programs such as the Conditional Cash Transfer program.
“Bryce will undertake site visits of the Conditional Cash Transfer program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the BRACE (Building the Resilience and Awareness of Metro Manila Communities to Natural Disaster and Climate Change Impacts) program of the Australian Agency for International Aid (AusAID),” the DFA said in a statement.
The DFA added Thursday’s visit is Bryce’s first as Australia’s Governor-General.
It said the visit is expected to further strengthen the ties between the two countries, which have a 66-year-old diplomatic relationship.
