MANILA -- Malacañang again struck down calls to either sack or have Metro Rail Transit (MRT) general manager Al Vitangcol resign following a series of issues hounding the MRT.

Presidential Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said it is unrealistic to think that the government will give in to every call delivered during mass actions.

He instead insisted on focusing on finding solutions to the long lines passengers have to struggle with everyday to ride the MRT.

According to Coloma, it is unfair to pin all the blame on Vitangcol.

"Hindi naman pwede na lahat na lang ng hingin na ulo ay ibibigay. Yung pagdami ba ng tao e isisisi natin kay Vitangcol?" he said.

A train commuters network briefly picketed the office of Vitangcol on Thursday morning and called for his resignation, citing his alleged involvement in the $30-million extortion try on Czech train car builder Inekon.

The Riles Network also expressed their anger over Vitangcol's failure to resolve the problems in the train system's operations which have severely affected commuters.

The protesters lamented the government's alleged lack of action on Vitangcol.

They said that while President Benigno Aquino II have publicly berated officials before, Vitangcol seems to be getting a kid's glove treatment from the President. -- With report from Doris Bigornia, ABS-CBN News
