MANILA -- Alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles may undergo minor surgery at the Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) anytime beginning today.
In a press briefing on Monday, doctors from the OsMak said Napoles has been cleared to undergo a biopsy wherein tissue samples from her uterus will be extracted to be further examined.
But they said the biopsy will only proceed with the consent of Napoles and her team of doctors from the St. Luke's Medical Center.
OsMak medical director Ishmael Peralta said the result of the biopsy -- whether the patient's ovarian cyst is benign or malignant -- will determine the next treatment for Napoles.
According to obstetrician-gynecologist Florentina Villanueva, Napoles is in stable condition.
"She has stable vital signs, so normal yung blood pressure, normal pulse rate and temperature," she said.
Peralta said it may take Napoles only one day to recover from the procedure.
After her surgery and recovery, Napoles will be taken back to Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, where she has been detained for the serious illegal detention case filed against her by pork scam whistleblower Benhur Luy. -- With ANC
