MANILA - Malacañang on Wednesday greeted former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on her upcoming birthday.
Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma made the greeting when asked for Malacanang's reaction to the grant of a permit for Arroyo's family to be able to spend her birthday with her.
Arroyo had asked the court for extended visiting hours so her family can spend her birthday with her. A similar arrangement was allowed for Christmas and New Year.
Arroyo turns 67 this Saturday. She is under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center due to complications from a cervical spine surgery.
The former President was charged with plunder for the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds.
Arroyo and her successor, President Aquino, have had a confrontational relationship, with the latter blaming his predecessor for alleged corruption and other problems in the country.
