Court allows St. Luke's doctors to attend to Napoles
MANILA (UPDATED) -- The Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150 has granted the urgent motion of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles to have a total of 6 private physicians from St. Luke's Medical Center treat her at the government-owned Ospital ng Makati.
In his resolution, Makati RTC Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda cited the patient's right to avail the services of a doctor of her choice under the Philippine Medical Association's Declaration on the Rights and Obligations of a Patient.
Alameda also explained that the OsMak was willing to grant the request of Napoles subject to the court's authority.
A hospital official testified that granting the request would not violate any existing rules and regulations of the institution.
The court insisted, however, that a representative from OsMak be given full access to Napoles' medical records and participate in her management.
Alameda also said that the OsMak will still sign Napoles' medical report.
This is to ensure that the accused does not stay in the hospital longer than necessary.
Barring any complications, doctors estimate that Napoles would be confined at the hospital for a total of 26 days.
The court earlier granted Napoles' request for surgery to remove her uterine myoma and hospital confinement but only at the Ospital ng Makati.
Napoles is under detention at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna in connection with the serious illegal detention case filed against her by pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.
