MANILA -- Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona on Wednesday posted bail on his unexplained wealth case.

Corona posted bail past 4 p.m. Wednesday prior to the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.

He declined to grant media interviews.

The Office of the Ombudsman charged Corona with 8 counts of perjury and violation of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees for allegedly misdeclaring his wealth.

The 16 criminal cases against Corona were raffled off to the Sandiganbayan third division, which set his bail at P160,000.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has asked the Sandiganbayan to immediately freeze the assets of Corona and his wife, Cristina.

The Corona couple is accused of illegally amassing over P130 million worth of assets.
