MANILA - The lawyer of former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) official Jose R. Taruc V has posted P1-million bail for the latter's temporary liberty.
A photo by DZMM reporter Johnson Manabat showed Taruc's lawyer Vincent Saavedra posting bail after the Sandiganbayan granted the bail plea.
The Sandiganbayan has ordered the Detection and Special Operation Unit (DSOU) of the Philippine National Police-Criminal investigation and Detection Group to release Taruc from custody "unless the accused is also being held for other causes not in connection with this case."
Taruc, along with former President and now Pampanga congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo along with several others, are facing plunder charges for the alleged misuse of PCSO intelligence funds.
The Sandiganbayan has also granted bail to former board chairman Sergio O. Valencia and former board members Manuel L. Morato and Raymundo T. Roquero in June last year.
Taruc surrendered to the police earlier this month after almost two years in hiding.
