MANILA, Philippines – Former Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary and retired general Leandro Mendoza is still in the intensive care unit of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, two weeks after suffering a heart attack.

DZMM’s Dexter Ganibe reported that Mendoza is now responding to simple instructions like moving his fingers.

Reports said Mendoza was celebrating his birthday in a resort in San Juan, Batangas when he felt chest pains and collapsed.

“Wala pang inilalabas na medical bulletin ang kanyang mga duktor, subalit nabatid na may mga blood clot sa kanyang lower extremities itong dating chief PNP at hindi pa gaanong nakakapagsalita,” reported Ganibe.

Mendoza, together with former poll chief Benjamin Abalos, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her husband Jose Miguel Arroyo, are facing graft charges over the botched $329-million National Broadband Network (NBN) deal with China's ZTE.
