MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III will meet with power industry stakeholders in Mindanao after the Holy Week to discuss the short-term to long-term solutions to the energy crisis there.
In a statement, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) chair Luwalhati Antonino said: “The President understands the full account of the Mindanao power situation and has taken quick steps to address the power shortage problem with great resolve.”
She said the solutions will be laid out in a dialogue with stakeholders.
She said MinDA is now consulting with industry players, including local chief executives, to draw out recommendations to resolve the crisis.
“The President’s objective is for everyone to be part of the effort to stabilize the power supply situation in the short term with lesser impact possible on power rates, and ensure sustainable long term energy security in Mindanao,” she said.
Immediate measures are expected to generate an aggregate capacity of 219 megawatts, enough to address the 150 to 170 MW deficit in Mindanao.
