MANILA, Philippines - If you think you have no stake in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona, think again.
The House of Representatives and Senate impeachment court have already spent close to P6 million for the trial, using taxpayers' money.
The Lower House has already spent close to P3.5 million for the expenses of the House prosecution team. The expenses include food and logistics.
The private prosecutors work pro-bono.
The House of Representatives expects to spend P2 million more for the trial.
The Senate, on the other hand, has already spent P2.6 million for the trial. The bulk of the amount went to overtime pay of personnel and office supplies.
The Senate has set aside a P5 million budget for Corona's trial.
The trial began on January 16 and was adjourned last March 22 as Congress went on a break. The trial will resume on May 7. Report from ANC
