MANILA - Senate President Franklin Drilon will attend the state funeral of Singapore's founding father and first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.
In a statement, Drilon said he will represent President Aquino and the Filipino people in grieving the loss of the man widely credited for the economic success and prosperity of one of the Philippines' southeast Asian neighbors.
"Lee Kuan Yew showed us that resolute political will can positively transform nations and societies and uplift them from the shackles of poverty," said Drilon.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario and Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima will join Drilon in the ceremony.
Lee, who served as prime minister for 31 years, died on Monday at age 91.
The state funeral will be held on Sunday, March 29, at the Singapore University Cultural Center.
