JV Ejercito and VP Jejomar Binay
Vows to campaign for half-brother Jinggoy if Binay picks him for VP
MANILA - Senator JV Ejercito has committed to help Vice President Jejomar Binay when he runs for president in the 2016 elections.
Speaking to reporters, Ejercito said that Binay has tapped him and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco to help organize local officials for the campaign.
Ejercito believes that Binay has the biggest chance to win the presidency.
"We're very confident. Wala lang sigurong major issue o mangyari, palagay ko as of this time, malaki ang tsansang si Vice President Binay will make it in 2016," Ejercito said.
He revealed that their group is already in talks to invite members of other parties for a "strategic alliance" without necessarily requiring them to join the party that Binay is forming.
He said they are also talking to members of Lakas.
Ejercito said he is willing to help and campaign for his half-brother, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, if he becomes Binay's vice presidential candidate.
He said boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao will be running for senator under Binay's group.
Pacquiao, however, is not yet sure if he will run for the Senate.
Ejercito also floated the names of Martin Romualdez and Rufus Rodriguez as possible bets.
Meantime, Ejercito also said Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas should relinquish his post if he decides to run for president.
"Secretary Mar is also a friend. Siguro kung magtutuloy siya talaga, palagay ko out of delicadeza, he would - and I think he should - relinquish his position of being a DILG Secretary kasi very influential 'yan at very powerful.”
