MANILA - President Benigno Aquino won’t stop the Charter Change discussions currently ongoing at the House of Representatives.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda noted the president always allowed the discussion of important measures like the reproductive health and sin tax laws in independent branches of government.
In both instances, he said Aquino merely expressed his position but did not impose.
The lower House speedily approved the bills, however, after the President made his position clear to them.
“There is a view that is already very, very known among his allies. But again, there is a discussion that is already taking place in the House right now. I don't know what stage they are in right now. So, I am very certain that the allies are very, very familiar with the position taken by the President,” he added.
Asked if Aquino is being ignored by his allies, Lacierda said he is not aware of what has been discussed. He believes, however, that the discussions are still in its early stages.
“We don't know what goes on in the discussions… So, let's wait for that... It's still early, so let's just wait,” he said.
