MANILA -- The lawyer of Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. on Thursday accused former Technology Resource Center director general Dennis Cunanan of lying regarding his background and in his statements on the pork barrel scam.
Atty. Joel Bodegon said the ability of Cunanan to lie is "mind-boggling."
Cunanan's most significant lie, Bodegon said, was when he misrepresented himself as a University of the Philippines graduate to get an appointment as executive director at the Commission on Higher Education.
"Alam naman niya dapat na to be appointed to that position, may post-graduate degree. Ni wala siya college degree," Bodegon told ANC Primetime.
According to Bodegon, the "total misrepresentation and total lie" will haunt Cunanan throughout the pork barrel scam case proceedings.
"Lalabas at lalabas iyan, lalo na at ang kanyang pagiging under the witness protection program ay provisional lang. Pag nakita ng Ombudsman na walang dahilan para siya ay dapat magpatuloy under the WPP ay tatanggalin siya at itutuloy and demanda sa kanya," he said.
Cunanan has 3 plunder cases and 5 malversation and graft and corruption cases, Bodegon said.
"This is enough motivation for this guy to perjure himself, left and right, up and down," he said.
Bodegon also reiterated that his client, Revilla, does not know Cunanan.
"Bakit ganyan na lang ang pagpupumilit ni Cunanan na idawit si Sen. Bong? Kasi po ang NBI-DOJ, kasama na ang Malacanang, si Mar Roxas lalo na, ay walang Ruby Tuason witness against Bong Revilla. So they really need somebody like Ruby Tuason to testify against him, at convenient na ilagay si Cunanan. Ang problema, hindi mo ma-sanitize kasi talagang marumi," he claimed.
Bodegon also said that there is nothing new in Cunanan's revelations.
"Wala naman syang bagong sinasabi, kaya we were not surprised at all with his so-called revelations. Wala naman siya revelation na nakakayanig sa buong bayan," he said.
Another significant development during yesterday's proceedings, Bodegon said, was Benhur Luy's statement that he gave Cunanan P930,000.
"Hindi binago ni Benhur ang kanyang pahayag na binigyan nya ng pera si Cunanan, P930,000, na inilagay sa paper bag at inabot kay Evelyn de Leon sa conference room kung saan nandun si Cunanan. At nung umalis si Cunanan, nakita ni Benhur na dala nya ang paper bag," the lawyer said.
The denial of Cunanan was weak, the lawyer said.
"Malamya, walang laman. Pag ganyan na importenteng event, hindi mo dapat masabi na 'it happened so long ago'," Bodegon said.
