MANILA – The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) on Thursday said allies of Vice President Jejomar Binay who will be proven guilty of pocketing public funds will not go scot-free in case the latter succeeds in his presidential bid in 2016.
"Human rights lawyer si Vice President Binay at tinitiyak namin na kapag sya ang naging Pangulo, kahit mga kaalyado namin pero napatunayang guilty ng korte sa PDAF scam o kahit anong katiwalian, pananagutin sila sa kanilang mga kasalanan," UNA secretary general Toby Tiangco said in a statement.
"Justice is color-blind. Whoever commited a crime cannot expect any favor or refuge from VP Binay--hindi nya pagbibigyan ang sinumang nagkasala sa batas," he added.
Tiangco also assured that a government under Binay will not resort to filing politically motivated charges against enemies.
Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile, both Binay allies, have been accused of funneling their pork barrel funds to fake non-government organizations of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles in order to get kickbacks
Estrada and Enrile are facing plunder charges before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the scam.
Senate Majority Floor Leader Alan Peter Cayetano earlier suggested the creation of special courts that will handle pork barrel scam cases, saying that the case might lose steam and Binay allies go scot-free in case the vice-president wins in the 2016 polls.
Cayetano, secretary-general of Nacionalista Party, has already announced his plans to run for president in 2016.
