MANILA - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima refused to confirm that former social secretary Ruby Tuason, a provisional state witness in the P10-billion pork barrel scam, has left the country.

De Lima said she will ask the Bureau of Immigration (BI), specifically its spokesperson Maan Pedro to explain its statement regarding Tuason's departure and destination.

The justice chief said personal information related to individuals under the Witness Protection Program (WPP) of the DOJ are confidential.

She said Pedro should have asked permission from BI Commissioner Siegfred Mison before releasing information to the media.

"I find it unacceptable for that spokesperson to be announcing things like that without clearance," she added.

Pedro earlier said that Tuason left for Hong Kong on March 2. -- report from Alex Calda, dzMM
