MANILA - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima assured Atty. Levito Baligod whistle-blower Benhur Luy will be protected from anyone allegedly trying to influence him.
Luy is covered by the Department of Justice's witness protection program.
De Lima said she is sad about Luy's decision to drop Baligod since the lawyer was part of the original team that exposed the pork barrel scam.
"Sisiguraduhin ko na hindi mangyayari yan na may nakaka-access. Yun ang kabilin-bilinan ko sa WPP na i-limit ang mga nag-access sa kanya para walang opportunity na maturuan na magsabi ng totoo or worse may mangyari sa kanya," she said.
Meanwhile, de Lima sees no need for the creation of a special court to try cases related to the scam.
Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano made the proposal so that the case will be resolved before the end of President Aquino's term.
"For as long as before 2016 maisalang na itong mga kasong ito at nasa Sandiganbayan na at magta-trial na, OK na yon. Siguro may mga obstacles pa rin along the way pero basta nandiyan yung mga testigo, documentary evidence hindi mawawala, trial prosecutors makakaasa naman tayo na may magiging tamang outcome," she said.
