MANILA - Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. wants a lifestyle check for all, including President Benigno Aquino III, Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, and Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad.
In a statement, Revilla responded to the challenge of on-leave Technology Resource Center (TRC) Director General Dennis Cunanan that he undergo a lifestyle check.
“For the sake of transparency and accountability, kung talagang kailangan pang mag-conduct ng mga lifestyle check outside of the SALNs and the Ombudsman, dapat tignan din sina Pangulong Aquino, Secretary Butch Abad, Secretary Mar Roxas, at ang buong gabinete. There are estimates that almost two trillion pesos in [Disbursement Acceleration Program] and Malampaya funds that have yet to be accounted for,” he said.
Revilla also downplayed Cunanan’s challenge. He believes that even without such a statement, he believes he is already being monitored.
“Anong lifestyle check pa pinagsasabi niya? Tsaka, sa dami ng mga akusasyon at kasinungalingang ibinabato ngayon sa akin, I would find it hard to believe na wala pang lifestyle check na ginagawa sa akin,” he said.
He said he has religiously filed his statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALNs).
“My life is an open book. Being public officers, we are always under the scrutiny of the public eye…I have been filing my Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), and that includes an authority for the Ombudsman to look into my material possessions,” he said.
