MANILA, Philippines – San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito Estrada is seeking a temporary ban on school field trips following a tragic accident along Marcos Highway in Benguet which resulted to the deaths of at least 7 people.

Estrada called on state universities and colleges (SUCs) to impose a moratorium to ensure the safety of students and teachers.

"Mas makabubuti na ipatigil pansamantala ng mga state universities and colleges ang mga educational field trips until these transport service companies are all duly accredited by the concerned government agencies," he said in a statement.

He added that the moratorium should not be lifted until bus companies secure required documents and accreditation from government agencies.

He also appealed to the Commission on Higher Education and other concerned government agencies to investigate reports that field trips are being made mandatory in some schools as a form of money-making venture.
