MANILA, Philippines – Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has arrived at La Vista Subdivision in Quezon City Thursday morning to visit the wake of her brother-in-law, former Negros Occidental Representative Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo.
The former president left her suite at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, where she is currently detained for electoral sabotage charges, shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday to visit Ignacio’s wake at the the Arroyo ancestral house.
The Pasay City Regional Trial Court earlier granted Arroyo’s motion to visit the wake of the departed lawmaker, who succumbed to his liver ailment in London last January 26.
The camp of Mrs. Arroyo said the former president will shoulder her own expenses during the visit.
The Quezon City Police and the Regional Public Safety Battalion escorted Mrs. Arroyo for her visit.
Ignacio’s remains will lie in state at the Arroyo ancestral home at 14 Badjao Street until Saturday (March 3).
He will then be transferred to the house of his legal wife, Aleli Arroyo, at 17 Badjao Street.
Ignacio will remain in Aleli’s house until his transfer to the House of Representatives, where necrological services will be held for him Monday morning (March 5).
After his fellow lawmakers pay their last respects to Ignacio, the late congressman will be flown to Bacolod, where he will have a 3-day wake (March 5-7). The body will return to the Arroyo ancestral home in Quezon City on March 8.
Ignacio will finally be laid to rest on March 9 (Friday), near the grave of his mother at the Manila North Cemetery.
