Court OKs hospital check-up for Napoles
MANILA – The Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 150 has approved the motion of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles to undergo medical check-up.
Makati RTC Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda, however, said Napoles can only seek medical attention at the Philippine National Police General Hospital in Camp Crame.
Lawyers of Napoles, a central figure in the P10 billion pork barrel scam, earlier asked the court that the businesswoman be allowed to undergo medical tests at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City to address her constant menstrual bleeding.
St. Luke’s Global City endocrinologist Michael Lim Villa, who examined Napoles last December, said Napoles has ovarian tumor. This is based on the businesswoman's CT scan results.
The camp of Napoles had asked the court that she be allowed to undergo "transvaginal ultrasound" examination and further medical check-up at the private hospital because these procedures cannot be done at the Fort Sto. Domingo.
Napoles is currently detained at the Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna for a serious illegal detention case filed by former aide Benhur Luy. Plunder charges have also been filed against her before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the P10 billion pork barrel scam.
Alameda, citing the testimony of Senior Inspector Michael Angelo Luna, the attending physician assigned to Special Action Force in Fort Sto. Domingo, said the hospital in Camp Crame has enough facilities to perform the transvaginal ultrasound.
The court has yet to issue a formal resolution detailing the schedule of Napoles' medical examination. – report from Henry Atuelan, dzMM
