MANILA - Why bring the EDSA People Power celebration to Cebu?

This is the question raised by political analyst Ramon Casiple after President Aquino said he will celebrate the anniversary of the People Power Revolution with calamity victims in Cebu and other areas.

"Saan ba nangyari ang EDSA?" Casiple asked in an interview on Radyo Veritas.

"It is a legitimate reason pero huwag mo involve ang EDSA dyan. May bright idea diyan. Siguro isa nakapalIgid sa Pangulo. Apektado na lahat, maaga ang kampanya ngayon kasi sa eleksyon kasi may deklara na isa. Kaya nakukulayan na ang lahat ng ginagawa ng gobyerno ngayon. either totoo o hindi, may ganun ng perception," he added.

President Aquino earlier rejected a plan for him to lead the EDSA People Power celebrations at the Malacañang grounds.

Instead, Aquino may also hold a town hall meeting in one of the areas that he will visit next week.

"EDSA celebration has always been symbolic. You remember the solidarity of the Filipino people that February in 1986, and I was also there in '86, so I fully agree, I fully support the decision of the President to spend his EDSA celebration in the midst of the people afflicted to show that he is one and will always be one with the people, those who suffered during the two calamities," Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
