Gazmin urges China: Listen to critics
MANILA -- Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin has called on China to listen to the statements of a growing number of countries opposing its behavior over territorial disputes in the South China Sea or West Philippine Sea.
Gazmin said Chinese officials should heed the positions of these countries to avoid tension and instability in the region.
He said he is happy that many countries are now speaking up against Beijing, echoing President Benigno Aquino III's view that "might is not right."
Indonesia is the latest to add its voice to the chorus of opposition to China's increasingly aggressive behavior.
Indonesia said it will not honor any air defense identification zone that Beijing might declare in the South China Sea.
The Philippines has already filed a case against China before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea over its so-called nine-dash line claim over the South China Sea. -- ANC
