MANILA - Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares on Thursday reacted to a statement by Vice President Jejomar Binay that he would replace the BIR chief 30 minutes to his term should he get elected president.
Speaking to a group of Chinese-Filipino businessmen, the presidential candidate said that among his first acts as president would be to select a new tax chief.
"Ipapangako ko sa inyo, within 30 minutes after I take my oath, you will have a new BIR head," Binay reportedly told members of Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. Tuesday.
Reacting to the vice president's statement, Henares said Binay's decision would actually do her more good than harm.
"Kung ganu'n, eh di mas maginhawa sa akin. Kasi yung conscience ko hindi mag-aaway," Henares said. "Alam n'yo, kahit anong oras pwede naman akong palitan ng presidente so ano naman reaksyon ko?"
"Alam n'yo ang serbisyo ko sa gobyerno eh ito eh parang my own CSR or social responsibility ko," the tax commissioner said.
The BIR chief went on to say that she treats every day as if it's her last day at work.
"Wala naman pong problema. They're just simplifying my life... I treat every day as my last day at work," Henares said. – with report from Ina Reformina, ABS-CBN News
