MANILA - President Aquino said that PhilHealth will soon include as part of its Z-benefits operations on certain heart diseases such as coronary bypass, total correction of tetralogy of fallot, and closure of ventricular septal defect.
Aquino announced the planned expansion of PhilHealth's Z-benefits during the 38th anniversary celebration of the Philippine Heart Center.
"Hindi po magtatagal, hindi lang catastrophic diseases tulad ng breast cancer, prostate cancer at acute leukemia ang libreng maipapagamot sa pamamagitan ng no-balance billing policy. Isasama na rin sa listahan ang coronary bypass o bara sa ugat ng puso, ang total correction of tetralogy of fallot… o butas at maling posisyon ng malalaking ugat sa puso, at closure of ventricular septal defect o butas sa puso."
He also said that the government plans to increase more medical centers under the government's public-private partnership.
Heart centers, he said, will also open in Cabanatuan, Legazpi, Bacolod, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, and San Fernando, La Union.
Aquino also unveiled and inspected new OR facilities at the Heart Center including the Hybrid Operating Room, the Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room, a new General Surgery Operating Room separate from the cardiac operating theaters, and an Endoscopic and Special Procedures Operating Room.
"For much too long, government hospitals such the Philippine Heart Center have languished under the stigma of being dirty, filthy, and ill-equipped mainly because the government has not given health the attention it needed," Dr. Manuel Chua Chiaco, Jr, PHC Executive Director, said in his speech.
"With the Philippine Heart Center as beneficiary of President Aquino's Kalusugan Pangkalahatan Program, as the President unveils our new facilities, we proudly declare to the Filipino nation that the Philippine Heart Center is malinis, mabango, and no other hospital can lay claim to being better prepared and better equipped to confront the problem of heart disease in the country," he added.
