MANILA - Only five senatorial candidates of Team PNoy showed up for the coalition's campaign sortie in Cavite Friday. The five are Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros, Ramon "Jun" Magsaysay Jr., Sonny Angara and Jamby Madrigal.
The three common candidates - Loren Legarda, Francis Escudero and Grace Poe - failed to show up.
Legarda, Poe and another Team PNoy candidate, Sen. Koko Pimentel, sent proxies to represent them in the campaign rally.
Legarda was represented by her father, Antonio Cabrera Legarda; and Pimentel by his mother, Lourdes Pimentel.
Poe was represented by Movie and Television Review and Classification Board official Bobby Andrews.
Magsaysay expressed dismay about the low turnout of Team PNoy bets, saying the sending of proxies is a turnoff.
He said voters can sense if they are not being prioritized by a candidate.
He also noted that Team PNoy should have come full force to Cavite since it is a vote-rich area.
The former senator said other Team PNoy bets were also absent during Thursday's sortie in Laguna, despite the presence of President Benigno Aquino III.
Hontiveros said some of the candidates may have failed to come after yesterday's rally ended late.
The President's cousin, Bam Aquino, said he understands if some of the candidates have prior commitments. He said Team PNoy will still make an effort to come together in future sorties.
Angara, meanwhile, called for an end to the bickering over the common candidates of Team PNoy and the United Nationalist Alliance. He said the team should focus on the programs and platforms of Team PNoy.
