MANILA - President Aquino has signed Republic Act No. 10364 or the "Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012."
“We hope that, with this expanded coverage of anti-trafficking, we will be able to remove ourselves from the watchlist. This is a concern and a priority of our President and this measure will be enforced by the different agencies especially the Department of Justice as well as our police agencies,” presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
The new law expands Republic Act No. 9208, instituting policies to eliminate trafficking in persons especially women and children.
It inserts several sections that penalizes attempted trafficking in persons and identifies accomplice liability and accessories to the crime of trafficking.
It also amends the definition of acts that promote trafficking in persons, qualified trafficking of persons and legal protection to trafficked persons.
