MANILA, Philippines – Motel owner and operators on Saturday were urged to strictly prohibit minors from entering their establishments especially since the celebration of Valentine’s Day is just a few hours away.

'We challenge motel owners as well as their personnel to be faithful and firm in enforcing policies and regulations on accepting guests. We demand for them to have clearer guidelines and definite measures towards their young patrons,” said Dr. Joy Alcantara of the Akap Bata party-list group.

The child rights advocate group visited the chain of motels and inns in Sta. Mesa, Manila and reminded owners of existing laws and various ordinances which prohibit children from going in these establishments.

“Mere judgment over physical indicators of their visitors might be subjective and irrational. We demand for motel managements to have clear and concrete measures in evaluating their customers like asking for legal identification cards, cedula and other proof that can assure them of their customers’ legal age,” she added.

The group likewise urged government agencies to strictly implement the law to ensure the protection of children against all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation.
