Cedric Lee partner in hot water over slay try

MANILA (UPDATED) - A business partner of controversial businessman Cedric Lee is facing another criminal complaint for his alleged connection to the slay try on a National Bureau of Investigation official in 2012.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) released a resolution in connection with the ambush try on NBI Deputy Director Reynaldo Esmeralda on Feb 21, 2012.

The DOJ order recommended the filing of two informations for attempted murder before the trial court against Tyrone Ong; Perfecto Villaueva aka "Chief" and/or "Sarge Pekto," formerly assigned at the Police Security Protection Group; Ronnie Ong aka "Eboy," Ramoso Ramos, Alfredo Compoc aka "Jackliner," Teodoro Abendano aka "Teddy," Ricky Dacillo, Gerry Farillon, Jose Maglalang Jr aka "Jun Demonyo;" Jun Monticlaros, and Alvin Monticlaros.

Ong is currently detained in Camp Crame for graft and malversation charges for the fictitious repair and maintenance of V-150 armored vehicles worth P385.48 million in 2007.

Esmeralda and his brother, PO3 Nilo Esmeralda, were wounded in the 2012 ambush in Lucban Bridge, Paco, Manila.

The NBI official later blamed the ambush try on then NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula.

The panel of investigating prosecutors, Assistant State Prosecutors Gino Paolo Santiago, Rassendell Rex Gingoyon, and Gerard Gaerlan, meantime, dismissed the complaint against Gatdula.

"As to the persons liable, the panel observed that the admissions of respondents Abendano, Villanueva, Raos, Aljun and Alvin Monticlaros, Maglalang and Compoc of their respective participation in the crime constitute direct proof that they committed the crime," the DOJ said.

"Statements of the above-mentioned respondents were consistent in stating that they had planned the commission of the crime and had actually performed overt acts in furtherance of the plan; that conspiracy being present, each of them [is] equally liable for the crime committed," it added.

The DOJ resolution said according to the statements of the respondents, Ong organized the group and actively took part in the planning of the crime.

"It was Ronnie Ong who informed respondents Abendano and Ramos of the location of the complainant Atty [Reynaldo] Esmeralda, thereby facilitating the commission of the crime," it said.

"Villanueva stated that respondent Tyrone Ong was his superior, and that he (Ong) directed him to find a hitman to kill complainant Esmeralda; and that respondent Tyrone Ong supplied the money that facilitated the commission of the crime," it added.
