MANILA - Acting Justice Secretary Emmanuel Caparas has expressed satisfaction over the leadership of Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Ricardo Rainier Cruz amid Cruz's relentless efforts to crack down on prohibited and illegal items inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Cruz has launched a series of raids inside the state penitentiary dubbed "Oplan: Galugad" which yielded firearms, improvised weapons, appliances, and luxury items, among others.
"People understand that he's serious and they respect his instructions. He is able to instill discipline in the facility. Director Cruz is doing very well and I thank him for reducing my stress," Caparas said.
Caparas, who served as undersecretary of the justice department during the brief stint of former Secretary and now Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, said he does not see instituting major changes or revamps in the department and its attached agencies.
Caparas stressed that initiatives his predecessor had initiated will be followed through.
