MANILA - The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Family and Life asked the Ad Standard Council (ASC) not to allow the airing of condom ads on television.

Fr. Melvin Castro, the executive secretary of the commission, said these commercials are even aired during prime time hours.

Castro told Radio Veritas the commercials contribute to the “corruption of values and minds of the youth.”

He noted one advertisement even features a prominent showbiz personality.

He said these ads continue to be shown even if there is a stop order from the Supreme Court against the Reproductive Health Law.

“It only shows that with or without the RH law, they can do everything they want. The mere fact na nakapagpatalastas sila ng ganyan it only goes to show na hindi talaga kailangan ang batas, hindi kailangan ang batas upang ipatupad ang kanilang mga adhikain na ganyan,” he said.

He said a provision in the Code of Ethics on Advertising shows that companies should also respect the religious beliefs and sensitivities of the public.
