MANILA - Two police officials have been ordered dismissed from the service for involvement in anomalies surrounding the repair and maintenance of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) light armored vehicles.

The Ombudsman dismissed Antonio Retrato, accounting division chief, and Eulito Fuentes, supply accountable officer, for grave misconduct and serious dishonesty.

All their benefits are forefeited and they are banned from holding public office in the future.

The Ombudsman said there were enough pieces of evidence to prove Retrato and Fuentes were involved in irregularities in the the bidding process, awarding of contracts and use of funds amounting to more than P400 million in 2007.

The Ombudsman, meanwhile, absolved Chief Superintendent Mario San Diego of the PNP's bids and awards committee for lack of evidence. - ANC
