MANILA - A 12-0 victory for Team PNoy in the May polls can be achieved, just as the administration was able to generate a 6.6% economic growth in 2012, campaign manager and Senator Franklin Drilon said.
At the Kapihan sa Senado, Drilon said: “To achieve a 6.6% growth in the [gross domestic product] was a tall order when we started this administration. Having the highest growth rate in Southeast Asia is a tall order. Passing the sin tax was a tall order.”
Both the GDP growth rate and amendments to the Sin Tax Law are now realities.
“We are confident that we would be able to convince the people that Team PNoy is the right team to put in the Senate because they will be the one to push the reforms that the President has started and were finished before his term is over,” Drilon said.
He said they will not vacillate in highlighting the achievements of the administration vis-a-vis the strengths of the 12 Team PNoy candidates.
He said this is to “make a distinction between the administration candidates, the PNoy Team, and the opposition. The administration can be tested on what it has done in the past two years and a half and it is therefore on this basis that it is credible for the President to claim that we will do more, we will continue the reforms with the team that he has picked and supported.”
He said the popularity of Aquino will trickle down to his chosen candidates. “We ask the question: are we better today compared to June 30 of 2010? If we are, we should continue supporting the President and his team.”
He said the administration ticket will also highlight the supposed lack of any clear program on the part of the opposition, referring to the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
On their common candidates, Drilon said: “Hindi naman kami batang nag-aagawan. Maliwanag naman na sila’y pinili ni Pangulong Noynoy and they are part of the team of the President. If they are part of the team of the President, that’s it. Sabi nga ng Presidente, ‘Ito ang Team ko. Mag-ingat sa nakiki-angkas. Mag-ingat sa hindi tunay.’”
He said they are now ready for the campaign, the period of which will start next week. He said they have 31 sorties between February 12 and the last week of March, before the campaign of the local candidates start.
“We said at the start that this will be media-driven. The problem is that we have to be very careful because of the 120 minutes so we have to analyze it carefully,” Drilon said.
