MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines fears tension will further rise if reports on China’s plan for a frigate drill and patrol in the West Philippine Sea are true.
"While there is yet no official confirmation of this naval exercise from the Chinese Government, the Philippines expresses serious concern over such activities that raise the military tension in the West Philippine Sea," said Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez.
"The Philippines reiterates its call to China to peacefully resolve the dispute in the WPS through the established legal means under international law including (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” he added.
China-owned Xinhua news said exercises will cover the Yellow, East China and South China Sea (West Philippine Sea), the Miyako Strait, the Bashi Channel and the sea area east of Taiwan.
These will be implemented supposedly to meet the demand of future maritime battles.
