MANILA - Senate employees showed support for Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Wednesday, the last day of session before the congressional break.
It was a week after they held a rally to call on him not to step down from his position.
This time, they brought a cake and banners to greet Enrile, who's celebrating his 89th birthday on February 14.
The employees sang birthday songs and chanted slogans as Enrile got out of a committee room after the plenary session of the Commission on Appointments.
Enrile, who was recently embroiled in a controversy over the use of Senate funds, thanked the employees for their support.
Enrile's satisfaction ratings recently dropped by 18 points to a “good” 47 (63 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied) from a “very good” 65 (73 percent satisfied, eight percent dissatisfied) in the recent Social Weather Stations survey.
Asked about his ratings, he told reporters: "Normal lang 'yan. All the years ganyan 'yan pag may lull, bababa ka. Makikita kasi ng tao 'yung everyday na performance."
