MANILA - The Palace declined a challenge for President Aquino to ride the Light Rail Transit (LRT) or Metro Rail Transit (MRT).
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said.
Netizens earlier challenged public officials, led by Aquino, to take the public transport systems in order to understand the plight of the riding public.
In a petition authored by Dinna Dayao posted on Change.org, she asked Aquino: “Please require all government officials, including Malacañang staff and senior cabinet officials, to take public transit at least once a month. Please make this sacrifice so you can all understand the daily realities faced by the majority of your fellow Filipinos.”
In a recent interview with ABS-CBN’s Bottomline, Aquino justified the need to finally increase the fares of the MRT.
Aquino also earlier said it is unfair for all taxpayers to keep subsidizing LRT and MRT fares even if only those in Metro Manila benefit from the MRT and LRT.
