MANILA - Individuals claiming to have the capability to manipulate the automated election system and rig election results are now offering their services to some candidates, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano said on Tuesday.
Although he himself was not approached by any election operator, Cayetano said several candidates for this year's polls had told him about it. He did not name them.
He said it is one of the issues he will raise during a hearing of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Automated Election System on Wednesday, February 6.
"Sana ma-assure tayo ng Comelec kung ano'ng mga steps ang ginagawa nila, kung paano nila gagamitin ang mga ahensya ng gobyerno like the PNP and NBI to clamp down on operators na nawala na noong 2010 pero mukhang bumabalik na naman ngayon," Cayetano told reporters.
Cayetano, a member of the oversight committee, said officials of the Commission on Elections must also explain the glitches that happened during the mock elections last weekend.
He said the glitches in operating the precinct count optical scan machines were alarming and disappointing.
"Nakaka-alarm na walang 100 days na lang ang eleksyon, they're still dealing with that problem," he said.
