MANILA -- Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza on Monday criticized the Department of the Interior and Local Government for letting a private firm handle actor Vhong Navarro's security.
"Bakit blue guards ang magbabantay kay Vhong, whereas dapat our very own policemen should secure him? Kung hindi kaya ng pulis na bantayan si Vhong Navarro, paano pa yung ordinary citizens?," Atienza said during his privilege speech at the House of Representatives.
Atienza's speech in the plenary was the first to ever tackle the Navarro mauling incident.
Prior to the comment about Navarro's security, Atienza made a commentary on the peace and order situation of the country and how DILG Secretary Mar Roxas was supposed to be invited to the House to answer some questions.
Atienza then segued off to a few comments on the Navarro incident.
Atienza later on challenged PNP Director-General Alan Purisima to quit his post if he cannot do his job to address the peace and order situation in the country.
Roxas met Navarro over the weekend to discuss the latter's security, following his mauling at a Taguig City condo on January 22.
